Brian, You Sir are correct.

Too many vintage racers want to emulate a past that never existed. Anyone who
was serious about racing in the "old days" showed up at the local track with
any allowable modification they could afford.

We are forced to draw a few lines in the sand today, but the "full interior
"rule is laughable in my opinion.
