I got emails like this too. I contacted Microsoft, and they DO NOT send out
any patches, so yes that is most likely a virus. I would not open it.
On another note, it appears there is another virus out that exploits the same
hole as MSBlast, but it tries to patch the hole! Its kinda cool.

I have received 2 e-mails today that say:
"Dear friend , use this Internet Explorer patch now!
There are dangerous virus in the Internet now!
More than 500.000 already infected!"
There is a patch that is an .exe attachment. The return address is
"Microsoft security, I have checked at the Microsoft site and as far as I
can tell, they do not send this sort of thing out! I'm thinking this could
be a nasty. Maybe I'm being a bit over cautious, but thought I would alert
the list to the possibility of someone out there throwing this junk around.
Has anyone else gotten this type of e-mail?
