The cover has to match the number of vanes (6 or 12), and also the gasket is
supposed to be selected to give the correct clearance between the vanes and
the cover.
I've also heard dire warnings that some of the aftermarket pump drive gears
are too soft/weak, and will wear out/strip in fairly short order. So, it's
apparently best to rebuild your pump if possible, the rebuild kit is readily
available.
