When I reached driving age in the mid 80's I graduated from tractors (no
LBC contect, John Deere) to Chevy Chevettes, having just missed the
only fun car my parents ever owned, a VW squareback.
It wasn't until I was 25 ('92) and just married that I bought MY first car,
a disassembled '76 TR6. Friends, family, and coworkers all doubted I'd ever
finish the car, and they were all smart people. With my first son
on the way I swapped it even, still in boxes, for a nice '47 CJ2A -- before
eBay
was created, otherwise I'd have made a fortune on the boxes of old, new,
and NOS TR6 parts. With the TR6 I learned that at that point in my life
(and still at this point) I'd rather drive ANY convertible than restore one
-- I suck at delayed gratification.
So while I was "working" on the TR6 my first assembled car was a '77 CJ5
jeep, which oddly hooked me on the top down driving I enjoy with
the TR4 today.
