I had the same thought about doing some of the trim removal. I've painted a
few cars over the years but the last one was my former 6 almost 20 years ago
so I had no idea that materials increased to the $1,000 level. Not
surprising I guess given other costs.
Anyway, it sounds like I'm in the right range around $2,800 unless I want to
commit to the DIY route again. I know I don't want a sub-par result.
