Jim, The locking tab technology was used up through the TR4. I have a TR4A engine in my TR4. On the TR4A the bolts were changed to newer style that got torqued down without the locking tabs. My advice that you must use those tabs with the bolts you have. I remember that the Haynes manual was clear on that.
