You will need to cut the studs after mounting the splines.  There is an
article on how to do this on British wire wheels and Moss's pages.  When you
have the wheels and tires/tube balanced make sure they do not put the wheels
against the plate on the balancer.  They must use centers on the front and
the back of the wheel.  If they don't you will never get them balances.  I
used regular rim weight on my wires.
