Actually $15 is not so bad.  While the electronic parts would cost less
than $3
to buy and assemble, the packaging is the trick.  What with the time
involved,
I'd rather pay up the $15 for a known functional (and warranted) unit.  I=

figure it
would cost me $10 plus time to do it on my own.
