Well said, Jim. Generally, I agree.
But.....
What sets me off on this is the tendency - or apparent compulsion rather - for
one side (you figure out which one) to flippantly seek to diminish and
disregard expressions of opinions by others rather than take them as what they
are: valid opinions. Yes, they might be valid even if one disagree's with
them.
.
FWIW, my take in the occupant of the White House is this regard.
Yes, I consider him to be both a coward and a bully - I cannot imagine a more
despicable combination.
Yes, I resent his draft dodging tactics;
Yes, I disgree with his activities during the Vietnam war (expecially those
where he travelled to the eastern bloc - but then in hindsight look what a
career he has made out of preaching to the choir);
Yes, I wholeheartedly agree that the First Amendment allows him to express his
opinions and conduct those activities and it shouldn't be any other way
(Clintons supporters might try adopting this idea);
And, most of all, yes, I find it appalling that after all of that, he seeks to
become the commander in chief of the very military "he despises" and send
people off into harms way.
And - to address specifically what caused me to chime in here in the first
place - NO, this does not place me in Limbaugh's camp. This places me in MY
camp. There is no place in honest debate for attempts at censorship through
mockery. They are as shameful as attempts through force. The desired effect is
the same and it speaks volumes about the one making the attempt.
