FWIW, when this thread appeared last fall, I took the opportunity to look
at my surpringly large collection of veneered Herald dashboards, ranging
in vintage from 1961/2-1964 and a beat-up Vitesse dashboard circa 1964/5. 
It appears that all of them are seamed in the middle, and more-or-less
"book-matched" -- pretty fancy stuff for a car of the "economy" class.
