Randell:
As I stated in my previous posting, fitting the Securon belts in an early
TR6 requires drilling only one hole on each side of the car. I thought this
was a small modification and gave the benefit of the very convenient belts.
If you do not wish to make any holes in the car, and stay with the original
style of belts, there are several options. As you are aware, TRF is
starting a list for the manufacture of a run of belts. I personally would
not wish to wait for a piece of safety equipment that may not be available
for several years. The other option is to contact one of the firms that
advertises in Hemmings that claims to do re-webbing of belts. If you have a
complete set of belts in the car with good hardware, this would seem to be
an acceptable course.
Here's my opinion on belts: The retractable belts look just fine in an
early TR6. They are easier to use than the manually adjusted, original,
belts. Lap belts alone are a step in the right direction, but I would urge
anyone who uses their car on a regular basis on the street to fit 3-point
belts.
