Hate to tell you, buddy, but I believe your thrust washers are gone. Take a crowbar and lever the front pulley back and forth...if you can see much motion at all...new thrust washers are in order. This is the voice of experience talking...I went the same route you did. When I finally levered it back and forth, I had 1/8" play (!).
