Theo- thanks for your thoughts on the thread lock/antiseize. I was of the
same in thinking but actually wasnt positive about aluminum heads. I have
known and respected Doug Sr and Jr. for that matter for several years, since
befoer Jr. was driving and if he had something to say about the allen head
bolts I would be interested, be it bad or be it good. I know they do not put
as much pressure around the area they bolt to but for some reason the bolts
I used had a larger head and needed a larger allen wrench than did the same
thread in mild steel, so I wasnt to worried about not applying pressure in a
more spread out area than a bolt and flat washer might give. After I
installed them I drove from southern IL. to the TE/AE United in South
Carolina and I was near Nashville Tenn. when my girlfriend announced it was
time for a pit stop. I stayed with the car and checked the oil and looked
with a flahlight for other Tiger issues that might be surfacing when I
noticed I had some loose allen head header bolts. So out came the tools and
I got nasty sweatty retightening the loose ones but since then Ive had no
problems and although my hearing isnt good, Im not aware of any exhaust
leaks.
Theo, please pass along Doug's thoughts. If Im at risk for an unknown it
would be to my advantage to learn about it now as opposed to driving down
the highway and in case Im not the only allen head fastener. Thanks ahead of
time.
