Dave,
I made my own "Churchill Tool" per the Official Triumph Workshop Manual.
It's pretty easy, if you have a welder. You could take your manual to a
welding shop and they could make one up for you. I can't imagine it being
very expensive, and you will love it.
When I did mine, I fastened the spring to the differential first. Then
using the special tool, I was able to stretch the spring up enough to bolt
it to the uprights, one side at a time. This is really easy if you have
access to a lift. If not, you'll need patience and a helper.
