Thanks to all for the tips.
I'm going to try the contact cement route on the bare wood (I'm experienced
with kitchen countertops, etc.), use my dremel for cutting and sanding
openings and smoothing edges, I'll paint the backside and inside the holes
to prevent moisture from entering, and apply the white prestype LIGHTS
lettering. Then I'll apply (by brush) two good coats of Spar varnish with
ample drying time and wet sanding between coats. After that I'll hit it with
numerous coats of poly applied with a Preval spray unit.
