Greetings, Fellow Listers!
I've been following this thread, and since I'm starting to plan the
restoration of my '71 GT6, I have a question. I, too, am hoping to build
the engine to the 130-140 hp range, as discussed in the competition prep
manaul. There has been some concern voiced that this level of power might
be too much for the rest of the drive train. Yet in reading the manual, I
can find no reference to problems with the transmission, rear end, or axles.
There are some suggested modifications (shift linkage, limited slip diff)
but nothing I'd consider a show stopper. Also, as I recall the GT6+ was a
rotoflex car, but there are no indications of problems there either. Did
Kastner convert his racers to swing axles? I admit that there is a lot I
don't know. Those of you that have built race cars have probably forgotten
more than I have yet learned. I'm not looking for a racer, just a car that
handles well, and has a decent amount of snot.
So my question: Is a 140hp GT6 engine really too much for the rest of the
drive train?
