They will certainly look at timing - and with more detail than you can
manage at home with a feeler gauge and timing strobe.  Dwell angle, vacuum
advance and centrifugal advance will all be checked, on top of basic timing.

You will get an exhaust analysis, telling you not only that your car is
running well, and efficiently, but also legally!

They will calculate air/fuel ratio - although this info is somewhat surplus
to requirements, as the correct a/f ratio will come from making sure the
burn is correct.

To get all the above is likely to cost around, or above, 100 pounds.

It is also possible to get a power output curve for your engine, to see if
it produces anything like what it was claimed to do when built!

They can do more than you can do at home, if only because they have lots of
expensive equipment.  Whether the extra they can do is worth the money is
another matter - for all but racers, probably not.
