OK, let me answer that with a quote from the great prophets Rogers & 
Hammerstein:

"Who can explain it? Who can tell you why?

Oops. Doesn't make much sense, right? Pretty much the way I feel about 
DRL's and the ever-popular CHMSL (Center High Mount Stop Lamps).

And about the latter: I had to laugh earlier today as I followed a newish 
Chevy Van -- one of those with the taillamps assemblies way up on the 
roof pillars. The "CHMSL" was actually LOWER than the "main" brake lamps. 
Go figure....
