Ken,

Bolt on wire wheels were an option for a while - I believe that they were the
last available option for getting wire wheels the book I have says through
FH60,000.  I think if I was going to get wire wheels that is the way I would go
as you don't have to worry about the splines getting messed up.

On the other hand,  as an older club member opined you are getting the worst of
both worlds with bolt on wire wheels.  You don't get the spinners and you still
have to worry about truing the wheels.
