Jean,
I heart of broken blades on original one piece 6 blade fans which are speci=
al items for hotter climates, but not with the ordinary two piece 4 blade f=
ans.
Friends some 10-20 years ago installed BMW 5Series plastic fans. Some recon=
ed cooler water temperatures. I am still happy with the original fan blades=
and when I can get one of them I buy it and keep it. Its the same with ori=
ginal oil filter cases. I see no big improvement changing to cartridge ones=
. Or changing original generators for alternators. I think its for those wh=
o like to play with their cars. Often this causes more troubles than they h=
ad before.

Correct me if I am wrong here, some owners removed the original metal fan b=
lades because of the possibility of breakage, they then replaced it with a =
plastic "Texas Cooler" that also breaks because it was possibly made in Chi=
na or by someone who was at some point the lowest bidder for the job. I thi=
nk one is better off to stay with the original ones, they are no worse, tha=
t's for sure.=20
In many cases the original was replaced in order to keep the car cooler in =
warm southern climates.=20
I don't live in very warm climate such as Texas or Arizona but it can get p=
retty hot in summer, I installed a four core radiator, an original style sl=
eeved thermostat and put back the original blades after sanding them, check=
ing for cracks and repainting them then check them every three years, been =
OK for the last 24 years, I'll stick with that.=20
