Diana,
I assume you have gotten some off-list responses to
your latest comments about the liquid being brake
fluid. If so, and if you are unsure about the last
brake rebuild, that is the optimum place to start on
your long project.
It can cost, but it is well spent money to replace all
4 calipers, both rear cylinders, all 3 rubber brake
lines, pads and shoes. Especially check the steel
lines that connect your calipers, the ones that bend
around so much, these may have a plastic sleeve on
them. If so I'll bet that is where your leak is
coming from. The lines rust under the sleeve which
traps water and dirt. strip that stuff off!
If you re-bend your new brake lines there, be extra
careful to check for wheel clearance once you're done.
They can rub thru quickly!
Sounds daunting, but a necessary job if those brakes
are really old & nasty. If one cylinder or caliper is
leaking, it is just a matter of time (and not much)
until you spring another leak.
