Brian, My mistake, as you say I have a "lucky" one (1969/1970). Forgot they're not all as forgiving. Recently I installed the engine without the manifold. Then realized it wouldn't go in, so I used the lift and tilt trick to install my manifold. But not all years can do this. Author: "Brian Hollands" <bholland@hayes.ds.adp.com> Date: 6/4/2001 6:49 PM Only if you have a "lucky" manifold. The Jig Datsun built them on was very loose by 1969. Some of them have the collector box almost horizontal. The problem becomes that you can't tilt the manifold enough to get the collector box vertical enough to come out. It may work on some if you're luck - I'm not. Brian -----Original Message----- "... when I discovered that the exhaust manifold wouldn't come out without removing the cylinder head!" Remove the motor mount bolts on that side of the engine and lift the engine a bit. You'll find that the exhaust manifold can then clear the frame, without having to remove the cylinder head.
