I would suggest going to the BBQ or to Mt Shasta w/o
the roadster.  Make contact with the many nice and
helpful roadster folk.  Talk about your upcoming brake
job.  Get advice (likely offers of help which would be
real nice).  Invest in a good floor jack and 4 solid
jack stands.  A good socket set, open end/box end
wrenches (I am afraid you'll need both SAE & Metric.)
Lots of Shop rags.  You'll make a parts list as you
investigate the extent of the worn components.  Buy
some help from your local group with kindness, a smile
and lots of free beer.  Watch what these friends do,
get your hands dirty, and ask lots of questions.  The
education will be priceless.

No, it is not something you can do in a weekend, but
