In my case, Pistons, Wrist Pins, Rods, Cases, mechanical fuel injection
systems and/or Weber carbs.

Could one be made that was totally OEM, yes. Could the combination of
used and new parts pass the update/ backdate rule. Maybe. Would that
motor cost in the tens of thousands, yes. Admittedly, there are many
other flavors of 30-plus year old cars in worse shape than a 911 owner.
Unfortunately these aftermarket parts are in many ways enough better to
not meet the spirit of 14.11.

For instance, say my '72 originally had 8:1 compression. The OEM pistons
are on a two year back order, but the popular aftermarket piston weighs
a third less and has compression of 9.5:1, is in-stock and costs a third
less. Does that meet the spirit of 14.11?

Is the resulting hot-rod fun, Sure. Are true slicks fun, ohh sweet
mother of god yes. And the Prepared communities are full of great
people.

I'm not suggesting that SP should change for the few folks goofy enough
to still play with old cars, just that Prepared isn't as screwed up as
it seems. Locally we've got more FP cars than ESP, BSP or CSP cars, CP
cars are 10% of our events, a few DP & EP cars come out regularly too.

Ummm...14.11 is your friend.

You can build your motor with aftermarket parts that are as similar as
possible to the originals.  This is one of the original premises for SP;
having a place where older Stock category cars could play when the
manufacturer went belly up of stopped stocking parts. And Porsche has
about as good an aftermarket as any.

What specifically is not available?
