Tony,
I have been listening to both sides of this argument for years. And to be 
honest, both sides do put up a good defense. One factor that has has to be 
considered is whether you have pavement available to autocross a pure race 
car within a reasonable towing distance.  Second is whether you have 
adequate space to store the car and trailer at home. Third is whether you 
have understanding neighbors and municpal officials who aren't upset with a 
trailer in the driveway all the time.

And I guess you also have to consider whether you want to drive your cool 
car a lot, or settle for something truck like on a daily basis that you can 
use to tow your race car.

The car itself may be less expensive, but the collateral expenses can add up 
in a hurry.
