Daytime running lights are not required in the U.S., they are required
in Canada, and GM got them allowed so they wouldn't have to have a
different wiring harness and lighting parts for US vs. Canadian
vehicles. Whoever decided that running lights need to be high beam (even
reduced intensity) should be shot, though, although you notice that
newer GM vehicles use bright park lamps instead of headlamps.

Autocross Content:  Night autocross!! High-beam DRL - equipped vehicles
only!!
