Thanks all (Vance, Dick, Steve, Bob, Kai, Jay) for the suggestions.  The 
majority vote seems to be to rebuild the master cylinder.  The PDWA has also 
been mentioned, though I'm pretty sure mine has been gutted by the PO.  Or, 
actually, his mechanic.

This whole thing started with needing to replace the front hoses.  And, yes, I 
put in new o-rings.

So here's what I'm going to do.  I'm going to rebuild the master cylinder.  
I'm going to make sure the PDWA has been gutted and/or get rid of it 
entirely.  (It hasn't been hooked up in the 20+ years I've owned the car, I 
don't think I'll miss it.)  I'm going to go ahead and replace the hoses on 
the rear, since I already have those, and bleed everything.

I estimate this as a 2 six-pack job.

BTW, did you know that you can buy Lucas brake fluid?  (BPNW)  I think I'll 
pass.

I'll let you know how it went.
