Geoff:
Lose the spare tire before the race. That sucker really weighs down the rear
when you are trying to accelerate. You can cheat on the fuel as well. You
can get 100 pounds off the normal weight just with 1/2 tank of gas and no
spare.
Of course if you are really determined, then give him the gas you take out
of your tank as a sign of friendship and trust. You know, "we're both using
the same fuel etc". Just don't forget to slip some sugar in his lot before
you top up his tank...

Mark Hooper

Subject: Miata Racing - Futile Attempt?
List,
has anybody successfully gone up against a Miata with their TR6? I ask
this
because where I work, there are more than a few people who have Miatas,
of
which there are some real driving enthusiasts (translation - like to go
fast). One gentleman just acquired a 1990 Miata and let me drive it.
The
experience scared me because to me, acceleration seemed to be every bit
of my
TR6 and perhaps more and braking/handling was no contest. The gentleman
suggested we go to Moroso this weekend (an official venue) and put the
two
against each other on the strip. Does anybody know if I stand a chance,
or
will I embarrass myself? His: bone stock 1990 Miata - revs easily to
6500rpms. Mine: 74 TR6, head milled to 9.5:1, fast road cam with .403"
lift
and 270 duration, port matched headers, twin SU's with optimized needles
-
forced to shift at 5500rpm. I know it sounds like a no-brainer, but
that
Maita was QUICK!!!
Cheers
