David is right on the "can't be 180 out".
It has to be the drive spindle. Unless it was indexed upon
installation, it could be in any number of positions relative to the
cam. And the scatter pattern won't matter, either. Pistons come up
in pairs. The motor doesn't care which one is firing as long as they
fire in the right order. Run it like it is, switch the wires. Or,
if you have time to waste, pull the drive spindle from the block and
index it differently.
