I have never tried this myself, but I was in an old-timer's wood shop a few years ago which he only heats when he is in the shop. To keep all of his paints from freezing, he keeps them in a small closet and leaves a bulb burning. He claims it keeps the closet above freezing. I would be worried about the fire hazard, but this was an old shop and apparently he has beaten the odds.
