Terry,

My shoulders are broad enough to withstand the wrath of our friends, so this
is the way I was taught to do it.

Head studs should be installed with Loctite, not lubricant. As I always use
grease on both sides of the head gasket, I clean the excess off my hands by
wiping them on the studs. Before quality stud removers were invented, the
procedure for removing or installing head studs required a pair of nuts
locked together and an 8" spanner or Tommy bar, not a 6" one.

Singapore went metric in the '40's, why would you expect to buy British size
washers there now or even "years ago" unless you're talking pre-WWII? If
they won't fit inch sizes, throw them away or give them to a rice burner
operation. One of the real time wasters in life is trying to enlarge the
hole in a fibre washer with a file. Use a wad punch.

Enjoy your goose.

Cheers, "Bob".
