Lew,
 My late PA (which shares some PB traits; bore and rear bonnet seal) had many
colors on it's brake drums one of which was silver, but was bare metal under
all the paint.
 I visited Gerry Gougans museum a few years ago and he said the factory painted
the drums red so that they could tell if they had been overheated if a customer
complained about brakes because they would have turned brown! Might be a good
idea but I had already repainted mine black then.
