I wish...sigh...That was sometime back in '69-'72. Debbie and I didn't meet
until 1984, and, other than family/school stuff, there's no paperwork from
that far back.

I no longer have a garage (another heavy sigh), so no restoration projects
otherwise I would've snapped up a 914 already stripped and on the rotisserie
that was for sale a while back.

Debbie picked up the '71 1.7L 914 in Okalahoma (1976-ish). Unfortunately, we
let the car sit too long while building and remodeling a house, and it's
been uphill ever since. Runs great, but needs interior and bodywork and etc,
etc. I've been looking for a decent '73-'74 for a couple years now, but
haven't found anything near or affordable. I'm kicking myself for passing by
on a concours '74 for $8k when I first began looking. Sometimes ya gotta
trust your instincts.

I'd be interested in your comparison of the roadster to the 914. We can take
it offline if the list/moderator would prefer.

Pete

Pete

Do you have any idea what number Roadster your wife had before? I also have
both a 67-2000 a 66-1600 with a KA24DE and a 1973 Porsche 914. When you are
looking for a roadster, first decide which you like better High or Low
Windshield. Sounds like you like the Low windshield, just like the porsches
there are more roadsters with less rust here in California.

With a 67-2000 just to get a rebuildable beast is going to cost you minimum
$5000 because they are so rare. You can easily swap a 2000 engine into a 66
(which there are many more of) with no problem, you can also find 66's a lot
cheaper, depending on what level of restoration project you are looking for.
The hardest thing is finding a 2000 engine and Tranny that someone wants to
part with for a reasonable price.

That is why people suggest the KA24DE swap, because it is so cheap!! If you
are looking for an good 2000 engine and tranny already rebiult I know
someone selling one but he is looking somewhere in the neighborhood of $2000
- $2500 for the combo.

If you need any help, let me know.
