Most of the gauges on my TR3 are non-functional. So I decided to attack the tachometer yesterday. I first replaced the cable (which had snapped), but the tachometer still didn't work. I purchased a t

If it's got the same screw arrangement on the back of the case for mounting the internal works, it should be an easy swap. I'm puzzled about the lack of openings for lights though. Are the markings o

Some of the older instruments have a small window(s) around the perimeter of the case, near the face end of the case. They also have a provision for an external lamp attached behind the dash fascia,

I can't believe you found even an aftermarket tach with no provisions for lighting. Are there extra wires or contacts sticking out the back ? Smaller holes, perhaps ? Tach mechanisms are pretty stra

The screw arrangment on the back is the same. There is one circular opening on the back, but it doesn't have a tubular extention so the light socket can be attached. The "old" tachometer had two open

I'll take a look at the numbers probably this weekend. The consensus is that I can swap out the mechanisms to use the correct backing. What puzzles me is why the light openings aren't there. Thinking

There are no extra wires or contacts, just a single round hole, but no tubular extension to attach the light socket. One explanation I have heard is that the tachometer I found is from a later model
