Well folks, I need some help - again. Somehow or other, the alternator currently (!) on my TR6 has a pulley that's too small for the fan belt being used. The fan belt is also getting a bit worn, so I

This is not about "fan belt/alternator pulley" so please bear with me. Could we set up a separate email forum (such as this general one) just for the TR-2 through TR-3B models since most of this mail

Bruce The belt should slid through. A bit of silicon spray or even some dish detergent might make the job easier. My did and it's been on for two years with no problems. You can remove the pulley nut

What a splendid idea! The traditional method is to place an old fan belt around the pulley, and tighten up the belt around the pulley in a vice. This will normally allow enough tension to be applied

using your hand to stabilize the pulley when using an impact tool is dangerous, rag or not! i suspect it's not very good for alternator bearings, either. doesn't the pulley have a rectangular cutout

Fellow Scions, I must interject at this point. The tool of choice for me when doing jobs like this is the Vise-Grip Chain tool. It allows you to grasp the pulley from the circumference without the l

If you, carefully, use a pry bar (appropriate size) between the pully and the tubular frame you can easily create enough space for the belt to pass though. Try removing the old belt this way instead

If the bearings are that bad you wouldn't be too worried about changing the belt. The Process I outlined was given to me by the Rolls Royce trained mechanic who has been woring on my TR6 for the last

I have done this on the TR4 with greate success using a jack and a piece of plywood under the oil pan. It doesn't take much motion to lift the engine just enough to get the belt through the opening.
