Well folks, I need some help - again.
Somehow or other, the alternator currently (!) on my TR6 has a pulley
that's too small for the fan belt being used. The fan belt is also
getting a bit worn, so I thought I'd replace it. Seems to be the oil
filter fiasco all over again!
First, how does one manage to replace a fan belt on these beasts?
Although I decided not to wrestle with it, there may or may not be
enough room to finagle the fan belt between the crank pulley and the
Frame Cross Member (Tubular). Does anyone know for a fact that the fan
belt can actually be forced through that small space? I'd really rather
not have to loosen / remove the Frame Cross Member (Tubular)...
Secondly, aside from using brute force (that I suspect would damage the
alternator), how does one go about loosening the nut that holds the
pulley to the alternator assembly? On the suspect alternator I used as
a donor I wedged a hefty screwdriver through the front of the
alternator to hold things in place. I'm reluctant (ugh!) to do that
again to a known good alternator. And the cooling fins seem to bend
very easily.
Any and all suggestions are welcome!
