- There is supposed to be a spring there! Both my Spits have it. But it is not supposed to return the carb to it's idle position as much as return the pedal to the up position. You actually need both.

- Hi Doug I think you have two systems added together, the earlier twin SU's had tension springs going back to the manifold to close the throttles, the later twin SU's had rotary springs round the spin

- Agreed. To be even safer, one really should run two throttle return springs, in case one of them breaks. A rare event, but Murphy's Law dictates that it will only happen at the worse possible moment.
