I just put one on last year, you will have to fill the cracks on your original dash with RTV silicon (came with my overlay). You are correct that you have to remove the ashtray, vents and tonneau pin

I skipped the glue entirely and have the overlay held on by the demister vents and ashtray retainer. Mine shipped with a tube of clear RTV, I think. Silicon caulk would work too. Gregory W. Smith htt

Coverlay Co. make a good overlay for the Spitfire. It fits nicely and the grain (pretty well) matches the original. Then there's the "Brand X" overlay that I got from VB some years ago. It didn't fit
