- I took my '68 1600 out for a spin last night after letting it sit in the garage for 3 weeks. Understandably, the battery was dead and I had to jump start it, but after running it for about 15 minute

- Just bring it to Pep Boys or Sears and have them test it, they will probably do it for free. An alternator is not for recharging a dead battery, it is for keeping a live one charged. Get a trickle ch

- 15 minutes runtime isn't enough time to recharge a flat battery and you should NEVER use your alternator to charge a dead battery on ANY car. On your roadster, .it overstresses the alternator and put

- Thanks everyone for the help. After testing, I found out the alternator went out, and took the battery out with it--with both replaced, everything now appears to be working perfectly. Only time will

- Started having problems last week. Went out for a drive, during which the battery stopped charging. Figured I'd put in a new alternator and voltage regulator (they weren't that expensive). Jumped the

- Kim, Just because you installed a new alternator and regulator doesn't mean that one of them could still be defective. There are quite a few things to check here. The basic ones that I would check a

- Check the continuity between the positive battery terminal (disconnected) and the output on the alternator. That will tell you if there is a good connection between the two. Also check the ground fro

- OK, that helps. Electrical problems are best solved using divide and conquer, with a bit of "typical problems" checked for first. Since you just put in a new alternator and regulator there is always
