Well since I'm a testing kind of guy I decided to experiment a little. I pulled 6 dome/piston pairs from carbs I've recently done. The dome to piston clearances were all between 1.5 and 3 thousanths

I think that the key is keeping the tolerance tight enough to maintain a seal with the gas/oil in the piston grooves. Looks like somewhere between 3 and 6 thousanths clearance that quits working. It

Since it allways reads high you can put a resistor is series with the sender. Try a 5 ohm 1/2 watt first. If you end up too low bridge the 5 ohm with another 5 ohm(making 2.5). They usually come in
