Speaking of rare finds: I do know where there was a NSU Wankle spyder that was
raced in 1967, another HP car.

I have seen a pic of an S800 and an S600 raced at Mid-Ohio in the 60's as
well. They may still be out there somewhere but so few ever came to the U.S.
and only a very few were ever raced here. It would be a tall order to finda
 n S800 with race history.

<<This does remind me that a few years ago, I considered building a H Modf
rom a Berkeley shell and running gear, by mating it with a Coventry Climax7
50cc FWM and running the power through a rear mounted Fiat 600 transaxle. I
still think it would be neat, but I need another project like I need a holei
n my head. I reasoned that all parts were pre 1960 it might have been
accepted by a group I would have cared to race with. I'm sure it'd clear HSR,
but then you could run against all the hoards of 356's.

I think your idea is the kind of thing that Art Eastman was thinking of.
There are a lot of people in vintage racing that have had similar ideas andi
t would be really neat to see a dozen or so of these
oddball-vintage-parts-new-construction homebuilts on a grid.
