I'm only thinking of this because my wife just threw an old one away after
buying a new one-- a rolling pin. As is my usual manner, I tried to think
of some use for it rather than dispose of it. Could you mount a cheap
rolling pin on a small portable frame that you could position under the
cable where it rubs the floor of the trailer. Maybe something as simple as
two 2x4s with notches cut in them for the handles. If it fits into the gap
between the floor and the ramp, then it wouldn't move any. Do this before
there is any tension on the cable. When the car comes up the ramp far
enough to clear the cable from the floor, just pick up the rig and put it
aside. Nothing permanent on the trailer to trip over. The width of the
rolling pin provides plenty of area for movement. It might look a little
dorky, but I bet it would work!
