Masten did indeed jump. His most famous was from the Ecurie Ecosse
Tojiero-Jag at Goodwood in 1959. He had steering trouble and had started to
climb out when he hit the bank. The car was destroyed but Masten escaped with
a broken shoulder. There is an article and photo of the wreckage in Doug
Nye's book "Powered by Jaguar". Jim Clark was his co-driver and he said there
was no way Masten would have survived if he had stayed in the car!
