   I don't think ol' Masten was the only one who bailed... I've a
   book at home about the Ecurie Ecosse. In it there's a picture
   of a car in the process of crashing with it's driver caught in
   the act act...  I don't think Masten Gregory ever drove for
   Ecurie Ecosse.

   I can well understand wanting to exit the car before a crash...
   especially if you knew it was going to be a "bad one". Back in
   earlier times with no rollover protection and few if any
   provisions for fire or safety, taking your chances by getting out
   of the car before a wreck might have seemed less risky...
