I'm researching a proposed series on oil companies' involvement in
motorsports, and the first such entity about which I am gathering
information is Gulf. While the original Gulf Oil was acquired and
subsumed by Chevron, and Chevron still has most of the archival photos
and marketing materials, there is no (as far as Chevron's Public
Relations department can ascertain) internal "history" of Gulf left.
If anyone has photos, marketing materials, anecdotes -- particularly
regarding the "Grady Davis" years of Gulf -- I would be most anxious to
review them. Of course, anything used in the final product of this
research will be fully attributed.
In addition, if anyone can shed some light on the recent usage of the
Gulf livery in endurance and sportscar racing (the Joest Porsche as
driven by Derek Bell, and the McLarenF1 GTR in Gulf colors), I'd be most
appreciative.
