Funny you should mention this...my '62 ALfa Spider jsut back from the 
Jefferson 500 showed same symptoms, but bearings had massive play, worn out 
from to much use/abuse! Seals were ok, but movement from bearings allowed 
leaks. Suggestion, look for bearing problems allowing axle mnovements.

Uh, Anybody else tempted to get negative camber like the Trans-Am guys did 
by bending the axle?
