Ah GUYS!!! ,=20
=20
RE-read that CLOSELY!!! That is NOT 101 =E2=80=9Cfoot pounds=E2=80=9D, =
it is 10lbs. ft. or TEN =E2=80=9Cpounds foot=E2=80=9D!! That is an =
abbreviation lbs. for pounds.
=20
That 10 foot pounds =E2=80=9Cseats=E2=80=9D the bearing, then you back =
off the castle nut as specified and recheck runout.
=20
If you torque those bearings to 100 ft pounds you will break the =
bearings and probably other stuff including overstressing the small =
threads under the castle nut.

Still, 101??? Not 100? Nobody lists a torque setting to +/- 1% =
Especially back in the day. With the old torsion-beam torque wrenches =
with a linear scale you're lucky to get +/- 5 lb-ft.

It's not a misprint, unless the missing space between the zero and the =
ell count. It's mainly dyslexic or too-fast reading, or perhaps being =
more familiar with ft-lb convention than lb-ft that led him to see 101.

And I lost a front wheel on my TR3B at 70 mph on I-70 in 2014. I've not =
quite gotten over that episode yet, Yes, don't fool around with wheel =

=20
The root cause of my wheel-fell-off episode was a restorer who was more =
used to MG bearing preloads than a TR3's non-preloaded bearings. He =
read this part of the Red Book service instructions as 101 lb=C2=B7ft, =

I have a Stag and have checked and changed various components like =
bottom ball joint and top shock mount, but am still experiencing a =
vibration, through the steering wheel, from the left front wheel only =
when I'm turning left. The car had been fitted with all new poly bushes.
There is no vibration going straight or when turning right.=20
I plan to swap the wheel with my spare, but can a bad bearing cause =
these symptoms?
The hub rotates smoothly and there is no noise.
=20
The TR6 uses a similar vertical link setup as the Stag. The hub bearings =
are tapered.
