Since you switch mainshafts you have to take the transmission all the way
apart.  I did it, the transmission worked for about a year then stopped
going into second gear.  A lot more to the story, but ultimately decided I
had found that my level of incompetence with auto repair and will farm out
transmissions in the future (you can still save about half the cost by
pulling and installing yourself).
