Hi Andy,
I bought the car in South Africa. The carbs were a spare (new) pair that
came as part of the package (so they could have originally been intended
for a different vehicle). Having said all that the fuel economy was not
bad (better than my TR3A).

just out of curiosity: was your car sold new there in Tanzania? If so,
could the needle be original or almost original to the car, having been
installed by the factory or by a dealer to compensate for local
altitude or fuel type or ????
