Guess I still like a suggestion someone--probably Randall--made some time 
ago, that you run the mechanical pump, but have the electrical pump in line 
but switched off.  The mechanical pump pulls the fuel right through the 
electrical pump.  Then, if you have a mechanical pump failure, flip the 
switch on the electrical pump and you may not even have to pull off the 
road.
